Going Viral is a first person shooter where you destroy viruses at a microscopic scale. This game was a group project I made is college with 3 other students. We only had around 8 weeks to create a fully completable game, and it was quite the challenge.
There were only 4 of us working on the project, spread across 3 different time zones. We were only able to meet about once a week. I ended up stepping up as the project lead. All of my design decisions were based around making the most of our limited resources. The setting, art style, and level design were all focused around this.
Regarding technical skills, I learned how to create an enemy radar and extrude meshes along splines. I also got a lot of experience with materials and shaders. I would be lying if I said I was satisfied with how my teammates performed. I often had to fix things that they left broken, finish their incomplete work, and in a few instances, completely redo everything myself so that it would meet the quality I was striving for. I did the player controller, health and radar HUD elements, player view model, materials, shaders, environmental art, sounds, logo, and level design.
Programming was done in Unreal Blueprints, with models and animations being done in Maya and Blender, and texture edits done in Photoshop. The logo was made in Illustrator.
